Prior To Surgery
Be sure to tell dr. Tavoussi if you have
had any previous nose surgery or an injury
to your nose. You should also inform dr.
Tavoussi if you have any allergies or breathing
difficulties, if you are taking any medications,
vitamins, or recreational drugs and if you
smoke.
Dr. Tavoussi will give you specific instructions
on how to prepare for surgery, including
guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking,
taking or avoiding certain vitamins and
medications and washing your face. Carefully
following these instructions will help your
surgery go more smoothly.
Here are some you should keep in mind,
BEFORE SURGERY:
- Stop taking all aspirin containing products,
medications that contain blood thinners
(Motrin, Advil).You can take 1 multivitamin
a day.
- Avoid sunbathing for 2 weeks prior to
surgery.
- Quit smoking at least 6 weeks prior
to surgery as nicotine can delay healing.
Talk to Dr.Tavossi before hand about your
problem
if you have any regarding quiting smoking.
- Make sure all requested labs and doctor's
clearance are delivered to Dr. Tavoussi's
office on time.
- Trim nasal hair 3 days before surgery.
On the DAY OF SURGERY:
- Do not eat anything for 8 hours and
drink for 6 hours before surgery.
- You may brush and rinse your teeth,
but do not eat or drink anything.
- Shower and shampoo your hair dry, if
possible pull it back into a pony tail.
- Cleanse your face. Blow your nose. Do
not wear makeup or moisturizers on your
face or eyes. Men should shave their face.
- Do not bring any jewelry or valuables
with you on the day of surgery.
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.
Wear flat, comfortable shoes. Remove contact
lenses, dentures and all jewelry.
- Someone must drive you home and stay
with you the first night.
- Arrive 1-2 hours prior to your scheduled
surgery time as instructed to you by Dr.Tavoussi.
