Rhinoplasty Procedure
Be sure to tell Dr. Tavoussi if you have
had any previous nose surgery or an injury
to your nose. You should also inform dr.
Tavoussi if you have any allergies or breathing
difficulties, if you are taking any medications,
vitamins, or recreational drugs and if you
smoke.
Rhinoplasty usually takes an hour or two,
though complicated procedures may take longer.
We have board-certified anesthesiology staff
who have had years of experience in outpatient
anesthesia as well as local hospital privileges.
Our nursing personnel are ACLS certified
and have many years of experience working
in operating and recovery rooms at the local
hospitals.
During surgery, the skin of the nose is
separated from its supporting framework
of bone and cartilage, which is then sculpted
to the desired shape. The nature of the
sculpting will depend on your problem and
dr. Tavoussi's preferred technique. Finally,
the skin is redraped over the new framework.
Most of the incisions for reducing or recontouring
the external nose are made inside the nose.
Occasionally, an incision will be made across
the base of the columella, the strut between
the two nostrils. The nasal skin is lifted
away from the cartilage and bone and the
excess tissue is removed or repositioned.
The operation is usually performed under
a light general or deep sedation. An anesthesiologist
will be present to administer the general
anesthesia and to
assist with monitoring to ensure your safety.
The procedure is performed in an ambulatory
surgery center or hospital.
